^ top Fire & Safety Engineering Technology - Bachelor of Science
The Fire and Safety Engineering Technology Program was established in 1975 and is one of only a few programs in the country which offers undergraduate degrees in fire and safety. Areas of study include life safety; fire prevention, suppression and investigation, fire service administration; fire protection principles; industrial loss prevention; safety program management; and occupational safety and health.
Bachelor of Science Degree Options:
Fire Protection Engineering Technology
The Fire Protection Engineering Technology Option is designed to provide the student with a strong background in fire protection, science, and mathematics.
Fire Protection Administration
The Fire Protection Administration Option provides those students that desire a career in the fire or emergency services with a strong administrative and management education.
Fire, Arson, and Explosion Investigation
The Fire and Arson Investigation Option was the first of three similar options in the US. This option provides the student with a diverse education in fire protection, law enforcement, and forensic science. During the Fall 1998 semester, the option was revised to include "Explosion" investigation and also expanded the laboratory and research components to enhance student capabilities.
Industrial Safety and Risk Management
The Industrial Safety and Risk Management Option provides the student with the opportunity to obtain a broad area of study into the safety and health field. Study includes, fire protection, safety, environmental health science, and assets protection.
Safety and Industrial Relations
The Safety and Industrial Relations Option is designed to provide the student with a strong background in safety, environmental health science, science, and mathematics.
^ top Fire & Safety Engineering Technology - Certificate
To better serve the needs of working fire safety professionals, the
30 credit hour certificate of competency in Fire Administration program can be completed
entirely online. The certificate program is comprised of the core Fire
Administration courses and can be completed without any prior college
credit.

EKU has developed a Fire & Emergency Services certificate to provide you with the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of fire safety/protection and to enhance your overall skills in this field. The certificate can be completed independently of the degree program however, should you decide you would like to continue with the program after completing the certificate, the credits you earn can be transferred over and applied to the Master's degree program.

The Homeland Security Certificate is designed to provide students with an overview of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) which includes a critical analysis of the structure and administration of the DHS. The Certificate in Homeland Security will Instruct students on how to recognize significant hazards and threats to national and domestic security, analyze intelligence, respond to national disasters and epidemics, and how to best allocate funds to minimize risk factors.

The Occupational Safety Certificate is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a high-level safety position. This program is also designed to educate students on the personal and environmental risks within the workplace on how to assess, analyze and develop safety, emergency management, security and environmental compliance programs and how to investigate, manage, and prevent hazards/threats in the workplace.

The Homeland Security Concentration is designed to: Provide students with an overview of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) which includes a critical analysis of the structure and administration of the DHS; Instruct students on how to recognize significant hazards and threats to national and domestic security, analyze intelligence, respond to national disasters and epidemics, and how to best allocate funds to minimize risk factors; and prepare graduates for employment in a variety of settings and capacities such as the DEA, Secret Service, FBI, Air Marshals, intelligence analysis, special agents, and emergency management.
